Turkish Delight, on a Moonlit Night

A few weeks ago I made a resolution to wander more. Making good on my word, the Queen and I are headed to Turkey at the end of May.

We chose Turkey due to low cost and having a good comination of things to do - a good mix of city, country and even some beaches thrown in the mix. That said, the tipping point for Turkey was this article from Budget Travel. Specifically, the pictures below sold us on Turkey.

We are excited to see Istanbul, sea kayak over the ruins of Kekova, and most importanly take a hot air balloon ride through the canyons of Cappadocia. We'll be there for two weeks and are also looking to spend a few days in another European city. Paris, Rome, Munich, and Vienna are all on this short list - hopefully we can find an inexpensive direct flight from Istanbul. Hopefully I'll be able to update the blog while over the pond, and of course I'll take plenty of pictures.

You have a great eye for photography so I hope you take lots of pictures. It's probably the closet to Turkey I'll be for quite some time.

In Istanbul the basilica cistern is really cool.

Also a turkish bath is the best. Ours was in our hotel - so relaxing -i have had unrealistic dreams of building one at home ever since :)

If you head south you can stay overnight in a tree house. a really fun place. http://www.olympostreehouses.com/

And southwest is pamukkale which photos just don't do justice. it is so pretty. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pamukkale

prague (praha) is my favorite european city. it was VERY inexpensive, the most beautiful, full of culture (although it's been 10 years since I have been there). it would be easy to get to from istanbul.

paris...I could not relax. a beer was $10, cheaper if you stand. many people there were confrontational if your french is bad/nonexistent. many will refuse to help you in english, even if they can.

I absolutely enjoyed browsing your projects. Good job. Can I get the contact information for the $30/hr plumber that you mentioned? I'm up for my bathroom reno, but have no idea where to start. Thanks!!

BTW, I live in a Baltimore rowhouse, I'm an engineer, and I like photography :))

Great resolution! This looks like it'll be a blast. The one thing I never regretted was all the travel we did before the Beechnuts were born. Have fun and please share some pictures on your return!

I gotta stump for Roma, which simply has SO MUCH COOL OLD STUFF.

Sara - Thanks for all of the ideas. There is so much to do, so it's tough deciding on a final itinerary.

Paul - I've been to Paris before and the people have been ok. There is a lot to do there, and the Queen would really like to see it.

Pret a Voyager - If we end up going to Paris, we'll definitely use your help.

Jin - If you leave your email address I'll send you his info.

I'd like to throw Budapest into the mix and second Prague. Both great cities, though I can definitely see the appeal of Rome in May because you'll avoid the heat and crowds of summer. Hmmmm...tough choices. Can't go wrong with whatever you decide though.

The transom is incredible by the way!
