Goodbye Loki

Dear Loki,

Thank you for the short time you were with us. We loved the way you spooned with us when we slept, the way you chased the ball in the park, coming home to you after a long day of work, and waking up to your (sometimes annoying) wagging in the morning.

Making the decision to put you down was one of the most difficult decisions we've ever had to make. We tried so hard to work through your issues and wanted to keep you so bad. 99.5% of the time you were the perfect fit for us. We were worried when we saw your aggression towards kids, knowing they must have done something to you before we got you, but we took you to a behaviorist and worked through it. We were worried when you bit my parents puppy, but thought we could work through this too. After you nipped the dog walker, your increasing aggression toward the dog walker, and toward your dog-buddies you walked with we came home dreading the dog walker's note because we didn't want it to say anything bad. We understood you may have to be a sheltered pup, but we accepted that. I wish you hadn't lunged at me the other night. While you didn't break the skin of my neck you scared me. It scared me, but I still really wanted to keep you. The vet and the behaviorist disagreed. I could deal with your issues, but we were afraid that eventually you'd hurt somebody else.

We're so sorry, and we miss you so much. Wish you were here.

I clearly remember the day my folks had to put down our dog (named Echo). She was a great dog but old age was really taking it's toll on Echo. Sorry to hear about your dog....

I'm so sorry. It sounds like you did everything you could to help Loki fit in and I know it must have been a very difficult decision to make, but the right one in the end.

So sorry to hear that Corey. My sister had a chocolate Lab named Watson who went through a similar thing. Watson accidentally had a bad fall and after became very aggressive and protective. They too tried working with a behaviourist but unfortunately, a new baby was on the way and Watson had to be put down. Its a hard decision to make. Condolences to you and the Queen.

So very sorry to hear this. it's one of the hardest and cruelest decisions we have to face as animal companions. I've only had to do it once many years ago(cancer in an 11-year-old Yorkie) and while it was the only option, it was no less devastating.

Sending hugs and happy thoughts your way.

You gave Loki the happiest few months of his life. Remember the great times, that sweet face, and his unique personality. You made the right decision, but that doesn't make it any easier.
He could hike a football better than any dog I've seen. I miss him, too. So, so sorry. Bye, RocketDog.

I am so sorry you guys. I am tearing up now just typing this. I know how hard a decision this was for both of you and I especially understand how rough it was for your Queen. I agree with what mom had to say, at least b/c of you he was able to know what it was like to finally be treated the right way and know what it felt like to really be loved.

I can't even imagine how hard that decision was to make. Despite how much you miss him, you and the Queen did the right thing.

Sorry for your sad news, Corey.

As a dog owner, I can't imagine the pain you must be feeling. I would have to use bereavement leave if my dog passed.

I am so sorry you had to do this... I am suddenly having issues with my shelter dog after having a houseguest (from hell) for three weeks. I've talked to the vet and we're having a behaviouralist come it.

I am sure Loki's in a better place and knows that you loved him.
